There’s all-purpose cleaner, and then there’s Fabuloso, a multi-tasker with hundreds of near-perfect ratings on Amazon. Admittedly, Fabuloso looks—well, fabuloso! It comes in a rainbow of colors and scents, and tons of people rave about how easy and effective it is for cleaning. Fabuloso is especially celebrated by the Latinx community, where the scent has come to form the sensory soundtrack of cleaning days so much that Latinx companies Mitú and Oh Comadre teamed up to create a Fabuloso-scented candle.
If you didn’t grow up using it, you’re probably wondering what Fabuloso is used for, and how does it work. And even if Fabuloso is the staple of your cleaning routine, there are probably a few tricks you didn’t know you could try. Here’s the intel:
According to Fabuloso’s website, Fabuloso is a multi-purpose cleaner with a multi-action formula that can be used to clean most hard surfaces. The multi-purpose cleaner can be used for just about any hard surface in just about any room of your home because it has a neutral pH, so bring it out anywhere you want to cut grease or remove dirt and grime. It’s even safe to use on sealed wood!
Fabuloso appears pretty simple to use. The website lists a few suggested uses: To clean floors, mix ¼ cup in a gallon of room temperature water. (Apparently, mixing Fabuloso with water helps it remove stains more effectively.) For bathrooms, walls, and other surfaces, you can use it on a sponge to clean. You can even pour it directly on a sponge to de-grease hard, non-porous surfaces.
There’s a time and a place for a specialty cleaner. But since Fabuloso is an all-purpose cleaner, you can use it creatively in lots of scenarios. Here are a few ideas for how to use your new favorite secret-weapon cleaner:
For a quick spot clean of your walls or cabinet exteriors, add ⅛ cup of Fabuloso cleaner in a spray bottle full of water.
Fabuloso also sells Fabuloso Oxy, a stain-removal product that contains Fabuloso and hydrogen peroxide, but you can also make your own mixture. Spray some of your Fabuloso spray solution on a stain (just make sure your garment is stain-remover safe), add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, and blot the stain out with a wet cloth before laundering.
For grease-ridden stove tops, microwaves, or tile, use your Fabuloso spray! Stand 6 to 8 inches away and spray onto the surface, then wipe clean with a sponge or microfiber cloth.
You can also use Fabuloso instead of bleach or toilet cleaner to freshen up your toilet bowl. Pour a few cups of Fabuloso into the bowl, then brush it clean with your toilet brush and flush. Sparkling clean!
Since Fabuloso is a deodorizer, it’s the perfect match for cleaning out a garbage can. Empty the can, pour in a cup or so of Fabuloso, add a few cups of hot water, then slosh it around, using a sponge to remove any stubborn stinky grime. To finish, rinse the can out with clean water.
